I broke down and purchased that white and blue vinyl type fabric I've been eying at Wal-Mart this afternoon. It should work alright, going over the Flak Vest with it. I do need to do something about the rivets on the shoulders, though. My goal is to make the red, white and blue portion of the new Cap uniform out of this so I can simply strap it on over a black shirt. I even have ideas for making the cowl part of the piece as well. I plan to modify my current mask making methods a bit for this, as I have ideas on using a modified Bat-Man face mask ($1 clearance at Wal-Mart!!!) so that the facial portion will look good. Anyone have any idea what I can use to attach vinyl to plastics? I'll look it up regardless, but I thought I'd ask you guys too.

I'm high on PVC glue fumes but parts of the armor are attached right now.
I ended up gluing a t-shirt over the flak vest and now I'm working with the vinyl.
I have part of the mask cut out waiting to be sewn.

Well, sewing the vinyl pretty much sucks. It keeps ripping out on me and won't adhere, so I have a new plan that seems to be working absolutely beautifully...I bought some Shoe Goo glue to fix the toe of my combat boots a week or two ago. Once the boot was fixed it was like "Crap. Now I have an entire tube of this stuff and nothing to do with it." I began experiemnting with it and it's worked awesome so far on the construction of this. I have to up load pics and then I'll post them here.

Alright. Here we go. Some pics of my new Cap armor, WIP...First is the star patterns, my adhesive I'm using and the number ONE piece of reference... Next is the mask base. I abandoned the idea of using the Batman mask in favor of this. I bought my son the new Wolverine costume that Wal-Mart has. The mask had a piece of thin, face shaped plastic as packing material. I put it on, traced the eye holes and the lower face portion and then cut it out and painted it. The plastic is thin enough that I'll be able to sew the fabric right to the mask. This is the armor, before I cut it to shape and glued down a shirt to work on. This is the armor cut to shape and with the red and white striped section semi-attached. This is with the base blue shirt added as well as a chest star, made from white vinyl. This is the back, with the vinyl star added. The gloves I plan on using. Thin enough to allow mobility on the paintball field, but made of Thinsulate, so they're nice and warm for cold weather. And the boots I bought. Buccaneer boots but they'll do nicely. More pics as I progress further along...

Dude this is so awesome! That cowel is going to be great when you get it together. Are you going to sew fabric onto the back of it? Or are you going to sew some of the blue vinyl material?

Actually, that blue is t-shirt material, believe it or not and yes, I'm sewing right over the mask most likely.

Put a basic hood shape on today. I've decided to forgo the plastic mask inside as I realized I need to be able to fit my head into this properly and comfortably, so Cloth it is. I need to make the actual face portion now, then add the A and Wings.

Need better pics but the straps are all attached and it is wearable now. I need to add some padding and shape the shoulder wedges a little and then it's good, for now.
I kind of want to learn airbrushing so I can maybe paint musculature on it. I also have to redo the neck portion with the Velcro still, so I can have the cowl down like in the comics.

The easiest way to learn airbrushing is to do it. Learn as you go. Walmart used to sell a small airbrush kit in the model section of the toy department. If you want to learn that is how you do it, with that small inexpensive kit.

Yeah, I always figured it was like any other painting...learn as you go. My father says he has a few air brushes he wants to give me, so we'll see.

I should be ready for full on photos soon. Finished getting the Stop Sign shield ready for this year, since the newest shield isn't ready yet. No more long, dangerous screws, thanks to my Dremel. No sticky rubber tubing either, thanks to Lacquer. Took the stickies away nicely.

Thanks. It is still a WIP, however. I'll get it done eventually. Closer and closer though.
