Thought I'd post pics of my new shield as it gets closer and closer to being done. This pic shows how the handles will be done this time around. I've chosen to forgo the door handle on this particular shield and have instead opted to use two web belts. This will allow me to not only strap the shield to my arm but also, with an adjustment of the web belt straps, wear it on my back just like the comics. The brackets are PVC. The screws that secure the PVC brackets will not be visible on the finished piece due to the next step... Fiberglassing the particle board disc that is the base. Adds alot of weight but improves the durability greatly. Basically, I need to fiberglass enough to get rid of the lip in the center and then we flip the shield over and fiberglass about an inch or two from the edge. Then, sanding and painting. More pics will be posted as I complete more steps of the construction.

The shield is now in Iron Man's hands, waiting to be sanded and painted at his workshop.

I will be taking pics of it soon in it's various stages of sanding. I started it yesterday and my air sander quit on me, so I got to get it warrentied. It will be up and running soon.

I heard back from Snap-on tools earlier and the sander should be back by Thursday. Tuesday I'm gonna be out in Amsterdam and I'll stop in and get a cost on paint for ya Cap.

Cool. If you can, check Home Depot on the Aqua Resin, too. I'm curious to see if ours carries it.

Cool. I hear it's like $5 for a starter or trial kit or whatever they call it and you need like 2 for a whole suit. Not sure if I wanna Resin a whole suit though. Maybe just choice pieces.

I'll double check the prices only because they vary state to state. My outing has changed from Tuesday to Wednesday after school.

Sorry. Misstyped up there...$15 for a kit, so if they're right on how many kits for one full suit, it'd be $30 or so.

I get home from class today and what do I see on the porch? A package is there. What does it contain? A air sander from Snap-On. I thought to myself, What can I use this for? Then it came to me, If only I had a shield to work on and I do. I should have the shield both rough and final sanded by Saturday, or Monday at the latest. I have next Friday free so let me know your schedule Cap for next week when you can.

Ok I'll start Priming when I can get a break in the cold weather. It needs to be a little warmer for the primer and paint to "cling" properly.

The extra windy conditions are helping on the Vision helmet, though. I'm sanding it out on my porch so the wind helps get rid of alot of the dust from sanding. LOL

All I'm doing now is concentrating on your shield right now. The Iron Man helm is still the way you gave it to me other than some clear coat on it to stiffen it a bit. I stopped off at Home Depot and yes they do sell the Aqua Resin kits but they need to be ordered. It's $15 plus tax for a small kit or what they call a starter kit. They can get the larger kit but they need to order it as well. The guy I spoke to said sometimes you can get lucky and find a couple of the kits in stock at the stores from when others order them and don't pick them up. ;D I'm gonna prime the helm at the same time I start painting on the shield and post some pics of both.

Cool. We should go halves on a kit and use it for your helm and well, I have a few projects. LOL
