I also like the way it looks with the metallic paint. I don't have a tool for engraving, sorry.

Like I said, I have an engraving bit for my Dremel. Just wish I was better at using it.

I've been studying the grips on this too....I might have to try and copy it.

We could definitely copy the grips on it with a well thought out plan. As for engraving use a template and practice first.

That's my plan on the engraving. I was thinking I'd grab some sort of scrap piece and screw around on that for a while.

Good idea. Hopefully I can get the shield shaved down and rounded off and not so sharp. The grips we may be able to make out of some old leather belts.

Wish I could bring it to work and use the finishing room's tool to deburr it and make it all round and blunt.

That would be nice I can only do so much with a grinder.

That's really all they use for deburring, actually, is a grinder.

For the strap grips on this we would need 4 thick leather belts and some medium size metal dowel for some of the buckles for the grips. The sheet metal is on order for us. I have a well worked out plan for our new projects.

Yes!!!!! Good to hear man.
The new pics show the star quite well. Looks like it's 5 separate pieces, all diamond shaped, and then assembled onto the shield.

Hulk helped me cut down the motocross armor last night and I ripped off most of the cloth on it. Still need to cut down the back side of it and then figure out how to proceed from there.

Got the armor cut down, edges sanded down to deburr the sharp edges and it is now completely disassembled. I'm planning on hitting up the chest and back pieces with some resin and cloth to make it sturdier as it has lost much of its strength by removing so much of the material. After that, I'm still weighing options.

This weekend I will be trying to get the shield started.

I got the chest and back portions resined, applied fiberglass cloth and resined some more.

Chest and back piece of the motocross armor have been sanded smooth and primed. I MIGHT just paint this up but I'm not sure yet, really. The primer was more to seal things up but now I'm considering painting it.

Bought some Royal Blue Rustoleum paint today for the armor. It matches pretty well with the blue of my mask actually.
I also found an awesome piece to use for the shoulder pad section. Wal-Mart has these knee pads that are the perfect size and shape for just under $6. Only downside? They're made from foam. I used the resin and fiberglass cloth and Bondo on it. I'll try and sand it tomorrow hopefully.

*Moved this thread to Works In Progress....seemed more appropriate*
Sanded down the arm portions. The foam with the Bondo will work just fine. Need to do some touch ups with the Bondo and then sand again followed by carving, priming and painting.

Sanded down the Bondo touchups on the arm portions. Need some very minor touchups to fill a few very small spots.
Began attaching some of the strapping to the chest and back using Gorilla Glue. Seems to be holding extremely well so far. I had forgotten I even had a bottle of the Gorilla Glue. Might negate the need for rivets completely.

The chest/back portion is fully assembled. I need to finish assembling the arm portions and then attach them to the rest of the armor, attach the red straps and make sure they sit properly with a pod harness and there's still the matter of the chest star.
I'm also looking at ways to make the mask/helmet like the pics show. I'm thinking cardstock and fiberglass resin, though I'd prefer to finish the upper body armor first before I move on to working on the mask.
I'd also very much like to find a decent pair of gloves for this.

Ok Cap here is an update for ya. My garage sale is now over so I can get started on the shield. As we had discussed on the phone I will have the new star for you chest on your new armor. The star is more than likely going to be in 5 separate pieces so it is easier for me to make and easy for you to mount on the chest. I will take pics of the progress on both for you.
